In The Old Days
In the Old Days furniture was built by hand, one piece at a time
by skilled craftsmen. Its these highly trained and experienced
employees that make our furniture what it is. These are a few of
the people that are behind the beautiful work you see on these pages
of our web site.
Tom Dyksen - Craftsman
Tom Dyksen grew up "messing around" in his dad's workshop. His creative interests developed further when he took technical courses at the college level, specializing in woodworking, to sharpen his skills. Tom enjoys building furniture in a variety of styles.
Growing up with three siblings in New Jersey, Tom developed many hobbies that he still enjoys today. These include hockey, soccer, and basketball. |

Tim Haarer - Craftsman
Tim grew up in Michigan and now lives in Goshen with his wife and children. In high school, Tim took wood shop classes and later built church furniture for a number of years. He came to SHC in 1980, beginning as an apprentice with his father Sam. Tim's specialty is tables. He has made over 500 unique dining and occasional tables in his years at SHC.
One can hear Tim singing while he works. He plays guitar and is involved with music at church and in other settings. |
